Deck Design & Construction

What I Did

From 2016-2018, I was self-employed in deck design and construction. I completed one full deck design and construction (30 ft. x 15 ft. x 5 ft.), one full deck design only, and two deck re-boardings. For these projects, I used both natural-treated wood and composite materials.

What I Learned

These deck jobs were what I consider to be some of my first jobs, and they were extremely worthwhile. This work taught me how to design a deck while following protocols regarding safety and rating specifications. It improved my woodworking proficiency and speed. It tested my self-motivation as I worked independently on long-term design and construction projects. And finally, it gave me invaluable experience interacting with clients and ensuring their satisfaction with my work.
